| Colonial
Williamsburg VA Hotel : |
Colonial Williamsburg is a combination
of a historical theme park and a living
history museum. It has become one of
the more popular tourist destinations
in the world for families and groups. With
its historic significance in democracy,
it and the surrounding area have been
the site of many summit meetings of
world leaders.
Colonial Williamsburg is an open-air
assemblage of buildings populated with
historical reenactors whose job it is
to explain and demonstrate aspects of
daily life in the past. The reenactors
(or interpreters) work, dress, and talk
as they would have in colonial times.
While there are many living history
museums (such as Old Sturbridge Village
in Massachusetts or Castell Henllys
in the UK), Colonial Williamsburg is
unusual for having been constructed
from a living town whose inhabitants
and post-Colonial-era buildings were
removed.
Unlike other living history museums,
however, anyone can walk through the
historic district of Williamsburg free
of charge at any hour of the day. Charges
apply only to those visitors who wish
to enter the historic buildings to see
arts and crafts demonstrations during
daylight hours, or attend scheduled
outdoor performances such as the Revolutionary
City programs. Visitors may park at
the Visitor's Center as automobiles
are restricted from the restored area.
Wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus service
is provided to stops around the perimeter
of the Historic District of Williamsburg,
as well as Jamestown and Yorktown during
the peak summer season.

Victory Center : |
The Yorktown Victory Center, America’s
evolution from colonial status to nationhood
is chronicled through a unique blend of
timeline, film, thematic exhibits and
outdoor living history. An outdoor exhibit
walkway details events that led to American
colonies to declare independence from
Britain.
Indoor exhibition galleries recount the
war’s effect on 10 ordinary men
and women who witnessed the Revolution,
highlight the roles of different nationalities
in the Siege of Yorktown and explore the
story of the Betsy and other British ships
lost in the York River during the war.
Outdoors, visitors can explore a re-created
Continental Army encampment, where historical
interpreters describe and depict daily
life of American soldiers at the end of
the war. A re-created 1780s farm, complete
with a house, kitchen, tobacco barn, crop
fields, and herb and vegetable garden,
shows how many Americans lived in the
decade following the Revolution.
